I have often wondered about why we are so obsessed with reality tv.

Why do we enjoy watching people suffer with the foul tastes of Ciccada shells or viewing the wrinkles and blubber of over weight individuals? It makes no sense that we should watch other people’s difficulties, especially when we have our own problems to deal with.

If we spent more time trying to focus on our own life and problems wouldn’t we have a more beautiful world, with beautiful people. I have missed, for so long, people who truly love each other. I don’t mean anything to do with romance, love is a verb. Being a Christian, I yearn for a day in which we fear no evil and I can do no wrong.

So next time you flick over to “Who’s the Greatest Belly Scratcher” or “Celbrity Fatties”… Think about what you can do to make a difference in the world around you.

California teen Angela Zhang, 17, won the top individual honors at a United States high- school science competition for inventing a nanoparticle which delivers cancer drugs directly to tumour cells - without affecting the cells’ surrounding healthy tissue.

The particle, which she describes as the ” Swiss Army Knife of cancer treatments “, is able to release a drug when activated by a laser. It also allows researchers to monitor the effects of the treatment in real time using current imaging techniques, although it may be decades before it can be used in humans.

The teen, whose research was inspired by her grandfather’s death from lung cancer, was given a US$100,000 scholarship at the annual Siemens Competition In Math, Science & Technology.

How to change eye colour in photoshop – Part 1

Changing eye colour can add drastic improvements to your work. It can make or break our photo and even our name as an artist. As always with photoshop, and a plethora of other thigns, there are more than one way of doing things; well, I’m going to be showing you six mega ways to do it in photoshop in a three part series. Each part will teach you two ways to do it. Well, without further a due, let’s make those eyes pop!

Note: if you want to know more about the photoshop tools shortcut keys that will be used, you can view them here and also download a free image of them.

This tutorials is done in Photoshop CS3 but can be done in CS4 and CS5. How to change eye colour in photoshop has not been tested with earlier versions of photoshop.

1 Preparing the canvas

I’m going to be using a photo by Fernando Milani. Just save and open the image in photoshop below to get underway. Don’t forget to double-click the layer to remove its lock and press the combination Ctrl+ to enlarge the canvas. It may look pixelated during, but it won’t be seen in the final outcome. Change the layer name to “face”.

2 Using Quick Mask for our selection

Press B for the brush tool or click the brush icon. You may have to click-and-hold to pick the brush tool if its accompanying tools are selected or press Shift-B to cycle through smoothly.

Before even painting on the canvas, press Q to activate the Quick Mask. Now we paint on the eyes!

Don’t let the brush go to the edge of the iris, but barely just covering the edges. This is crucial for giving it the professional touch and saves us having to clean it up at the end. Press Q again to deactivate the Quick Mask. Press Ctrl-Shift-I (Select > Inverse) to inverse the selection and copy and paste as you would. Change the layer name to “eye”.

3 Selective Colour

Our first method is selective colour. This is one of my favourite features in photoshop. It is soooo powerful and can do so much in one package that would require multiple adjustments with the other adjusters.

We will go through using the non-destructive method. Non-destructive in photoshop circles means not destroying (ie. permanently removing and/or adjusting the pixels).

Click ‘Create new fill or adjustment layer’ button and select ‘Selective Colour’ (no pun intended).

4 Altering Selective Colour

Once selected, the box will appear. For now, just press ok on the box.

Right-click and select ‘Create Clipping Mask’. Please ensure that this adjustment layer is above the eye layer.

Double-click on the box with the octagon to use our selective colour. The images below show the figures necessary for our result. If you can’t view the image, or even prefer text, the information is below the following images:

The Colours:

WHITES :: Black -100%

NEUTRALS :: Cyan +72%, Magenta +6%, Yellow +29%, Black -6%

BLACKS :: Cyan +54%, Magenta +21%, Yellow +35%, +100%

** Keep the Method as ‘Relative’ not ‘Absolute’ **

Group the two together in a group called “Selective Colour”. Before you group them, you will need to duplicate the ‘eye’ layer and redo the clipping mask onto one of them.

5 Hue and Saturation

This is a really quick method to use for all sorts of things. Though the thing to be careful with is: if you push it with this adjustment layer, you can make whatever colour your trying to edit look fake! Unless that’s the intention.

Using the duplicated eye layer, go through the same methods outlined in step 3 to use the ‘Hue/Saturation’ adjustment layer. Once opened, press ok for now to close it. Clip the adjustment layer to eye layer to proceed.

The Settings:

HUE :: 177

SATURATION :: 27

LIGHTNESS :: 0

** Please ensure the checkbox, ‘Colorize’ is selected **

Group this using the method outlined at the end of Step 4; though don’t prepare for another one, as this is the end for now.

Wordpress is big! Twitter is big! Bring the two together … it’s SUPER BIG!!! Yet it can be a challenge to bring them together. Fortunately, some developers have thought about that problem and created quality solutions to your woes between twitter and wordpress. I totally understand how you feel, so I have compiled three quality Twitter Wordpress Plugins that will Rock Your World … and your blog too.

Note: These are in no particular order, as some of my readers would know from past articles, I usually don’t. If it is in a particular order, I will let you know in future.

WP to Twitter is one very unique plugin. This plugin literally updates your Twitter when you make a new post! It has all the features twitter has, so you can even use hashtags and it does truncate the link to your post for you. There currently fifteen translations at your disposal. 2 Wickett Twitter Widget

Wickett Twitter Widget displays your tweet stream in the sidebar of your blog. It adds all the hashtags, usernames, lists, .etc as is on Twitter. The beauty of Wickett Twitter Widget is the ability to be able to customise the plugin to accompany the aesthetics of your prized theme! You can even have multiple copies of this plugin running on your blog.

3 Ingoal’s Twitter Updater

Now what sets apart Ingoal’s Twitter Updater, is a nifty feature I haven’t seen elsewhere, no do any of the aforementioned plugins have. As well as post a status to twitter when a new post is made, Ingoal’s Twitter Updater also makes a status update when an pre-published post is edited! How nifty. This is perfect for the posts that are continuously edited because it needs be (news, app updates, .etc) or even if you found a grammatical error.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to make an image at time of writing.

These Twitter Plugins are a blessing to those busy bloggers who run their site off Wordpress, as it will Rock Your World !!! Happy Wordpress and Twitter ;D

Microsoft has been working on the future, researching new ways and possibilities to do things. Microsoft has unveiled the release of The Big Picture. What does it mean for us? A whole new host of possibilities that some may never have thought of in our generation.

At first sight, Microsoft has really said much about it. They mainly speak about the pure awesomeness of their technology. How it will revolutionise our lives.

The Big Picture will transform the way we compute, work, play and converse. The way their system works is by collating many of their existing technologies, including a few new ones, to create The Big Picture.

The Big Picture will also be affecting the Corporate world with technologies that will assist in social media management and server management. Home consumers aren’t left behind either, it’ll be far easier for people to sync, manage and listen to their enormous libraries of content.

Students well incorporated into The Big Picture. Microsoft claims that they also have solutions to assist homework and study.

Microsoft is working with a host of companies to really lift it off the ground: They include HP, Dell, Acer, Asus, Samsung, Toshiba, Lenovo and Sony. I see great promise for The Big Picture.

Cloud is ‘the new thing’, that has been around for years, thus Microsoft has included cloud abilities in their new suites of tools. It’s absolutely essential that the Cloud is included, it’s the future and, from looking at The Big Picture, it is necessary. Sorry for all the Cloud haters, I personally don’t mind it but am not an avid fan.

The Big Picture has solutions for everyone: Financial Services (Helps manage financial, especially in economic downturns), Communication (helping organisations and individuals commute), Retail (allowing retailers manage their inventory and databases), Health (improving health systems and their business aspects) , Education (enriching the learning experience of people and provide quality education tools), Professional Services (equipping professional from all fields), Government Performance Management (improving the ways government work and interact), Government Situation Awareness (manage the armed forces of nations and know the stats and analytical data), Government Intelligence Awareness (easy access to intelligence databases and better improving their communication), Government Public Finance (better improving the manage of public finance and using it appropriately), Manufacturing (allowing manufactures manage their factories and workline). The Big Picture has something for everyone.

Microsoft is adamant to say that this is the future and The Big Picture is change. For more info, there are conference and seminars held around the world; equipping you for the future.

Tumblr is an excellent platform to showcase your personality and talent. Though, sometimes, all your awesome work can become cluttered, not because your lousy, but because there’s so much of your awesomeness on tumblr! Creating a simple tumblr tag menu can really help your tumblelog (ie. blog) go a long way and really make everything a breeze for your precious readers and viewers.

How it works

The Tumblr Menu System we are about to install works quite remarkably. It is a script which scans your site for tags on your post. It then displays those tags in your menu. If you have two tags for all your posts, it displays two; if you have 20 tags, it displays twenty. Even if you only used a tag once, it shows. Without further a due - Let’s get right into it!

1 Get the Tumblr Menu Tag system

Get your hands on the Tumblr Menu System from Heather Rivers, the awesome creator of Tumblr Tag Clouds. We will be using this system to create our simple menu.

2 Get to the backend of your site

You want access to editing the HTML and Description of your site.

3 Incorporating the Tumblr Menu System

Depending on how you want it to look, you can either place the copied code into the description or the HTML code of your site. If you are going to place it in your HTML code, please ensure, that you backup the code before any edits. Tumblr can fail at any moment, or you may make a mistake.

4 Tailoring the Tumblr Menu System to your needs

We now have the the code installed and working. Yet knowing how unique Tumblelogs can be, it probably won’t work with the aesthetics of your site. Tailoring the colours, advanced positioning and all requires some knowledge of CSS (and perhaps a little HTML, depending).

Due to teaching you the coding of the Tumblr Menu System is beyond the scope of this article, I’ll have to save it for another time. Heather Rivers has instruction on how to do it here. I’d prefer to go indepth and stay on topics in another article coming soon. Sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused.

Spirited Away Review

I watched a movie (anime) recently called Spirited Away, the company who made this was Studio Ghibli (disney’s labels all over it but in my opinion all they did was provide a massive budget :P)

This movie was the first I ever watched from Studio Ghibli and it was one of the most sensational and magical movies I have ever seen (and Ive seen a LOT of kids movies)(mostly from the 90’s, you know when kids movies were at their prime, but I’ll go into that later)

The director/Story behind this film is Hayao Miyazaki who seems to capture a child’s since of imagination and mind in general unlike anything I have ever seen,

The movie is about a 10 year old girl named Chihiro who is moving to a new town, but becomes trapped in an alternate dimension filled with spirits and monsters, (I dont want to spoil it and say to much)

People think it’s hard to get your hands on drugs. Drugs are easy and relatively cheap; even some are free, but more on that later. Drugs aren’t as bad as you think, they ca really help you when you’re down and when you need a boost. They’re also quite good at helping your body, especially when you’re sick. Well, without further a due, let’s find out the four awesome ways to get your hands on drugs!

1 By the drugs online

There are plenty of pharmaceutical drug stores online. They’re highly convenient and, if you’re really sick, you can purchase them from your own home. Especially if you’re really embarrassed with the illness. I can’t stress this enough, but watch out for the scams! There are plenty of sites that offer ridiculous things and products that magically cure you from certain cancers and illnesses. If you know of any that are true, please, let me know.

2 Go to your GP for drugs

If you have any problems what so ever, you really need to see them. Your GP (General Practice), are the people you need to see for almost everything. GP can diagnose almost any problem that you may have and will prescribe the right drug if necessary; if unable to and/or it is advised, they will send you to a specialist.

3 Walk into a chemist

When you go to a physical, brick and mortar store, they are always there to help. The pharmacists there will happily recommend the perfect drug for. Whether you’re happy or gloomy, sick or hurt – There’s a drug for you.

4 Grow your own drugs

There are plenty of therapeutic herbs and plants out there. They aren’t like the ones you buy in store, but they can help. Aloe Vera is great for sores, rashes and mainly anything skin and hair. Paw Paw, is similar yet also very great!; it really helps with any chaffing, scars, itches and plenty more. Plants are more powerful than you think! FACT: All artificially made drugs (ie. anything you purchase, even those that claim to be completely natural, they use a work-around in the law or just plain lie, come from our rainforest, bushes and anywhere else on Earth.

Getting serious

Now, I don’t know what you were thinking, but I’m talking legal. If you’re looking for the illegal ones, you’ve seriously come to the wrong place (right actually, because you really shouldn’t be doing them). My awesome drug assist list was in no particular order.

Rovio Opens The Worlds’s First Angry Birds Store In Finland

Rovio, the makers of the famous mobile game Angry Birds has opened up a retail store in Helsinki, Finland. The company have make a decision to move into the retail business after the success of Angry Birds game which started by their small team of developers two years ago.

But the company biggest wish is to set up a store in China. Besides having fake merchandise sold there, China is the largest market for Angry Birds in Asia and people everywhere are crazy about the big fluffy red birds.

The store in Finland sell from stationeries, shirts to Angry Birds cookbook but mainly the shelves are lined with Angry Birds plush toys launched a year ago.
